When Filipinos First Took on UTMB

When Filipinos First Took on UTMB - Ahon.ph

UTMB is the world’s most iconic 100-miler: 168 kilometers around Mont Blanc with ~10,000 meters of climbing across France, Italy, and Switzerland. For many Filipino trail runners, it’s a lifetime dream.

In 2014, Aldean Lim became one of the first Filipinos to run UTMB. His journey—from qualifying in Philippine ultras to carrying the flag in Chamonix—showed that Filipinos belong on the world’s toughest trails.

The Journey

To qualify, Aldean completed the hardest ultras in the Philippines—Clark-Miyamit Falls, TNF100, and KOTM Hardcore 100 Miles—then built months of mountain-specific training. The race tested everything: blisters, cold nights, a failing headlamp, and two sunrises on the trail. After 46 hours, he crossed the finish line in Chamonix carrying the Philippine flag.
